I was like many waterfowl hunters who regularly hunted and learned the craft from family and friends. I harvested my birds, but I was always interested in "those people" who seemed to know the places to hunt, the right equipment to use, and could call like the guys on the videos I had seen.

I initially came to a callers meeting as curiosity and to meet with other waterfowlers.
I ended up finding a group of people who love the craft of waterfowling, who talk the latest equipment and techniques, and I found a group who could teach me the benefits of good and appropriate calling. Through the help of friends I have gained through many years of attending meetings, I have gone from someone who wondered if calls actually worked, to standing on a stage and calling in front of hundreds of people in competitions. I also found the callers are not all about competition calling, but helping anyone, even the novice, have a greater appreciation for calling, and to have a venue to improve ones ability to call birds, get them to work a decoy spread, and have the joy of telling, or bragging, to friends about that bird they called in and harvested.

I have also found the callers meeting a place to give back to kids and waterfowling through helping young waterfowlers and volunteering at Woodicamp. I have been involved in projects that have helped other waterfowl organizations and the environment. I have had the opportunity gain a vast amount of information from many of the experienced and veteran waterfowlers around the state who attend the meetings or help with projects. So, I hope you take the opportunity to check out one of the monthly meetings and have your own experience with the callers.
