From the 1950’s until the 1980’s the Minnesota State Duck & Goose calling contests were the only major calling contests in the state. These contests traveled throughout the state with several companies and organizations promoting them including the Minnesota Waterfowl Association and Burger Brothers.
In the late 1980’s John Molkenbur started taking down names and addresses of the contest callers and eventually came up with a list of twenty. Among those twenty were Don Parsons, Paul Englund and Curt Schuneman who gave guidance and in 1990 the Duck & Goose Callers incorporated with the state of Minnesota as a non-profit organization. The Minnesota Duck & Goose Callers is modeled after the Nebraska Duck Callers Association and even adopted their Mission Statement.
In the early 1990’s the Minnesota State Duck & Goose calling championships went to the Duck & Goose Callers. Curt Schuneman lobbied the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce in Stuttgart Arkansas, home of the World Duck Calling Championships, and the North Star Regional Duck & Goose Calling Championships were brought to Minnesota. (The North Star Regional name was Paul Englund’s idea).
